Movie Review : Mookuthi Amman (15th Nov 2020)

First of all, HATA OFF 👏 to RJ Balaji for the thought and brave making of this film which is the "Need of the hour" especially in INDIA, precisely Tamilnadu.  The film is simply "Sliding-Needle-Into-Banana".  The whole casting was perfect, remarkably Nayantara & Ajay Gosh.

Instead of just watching this movie as an entertainment, every INDIAN should get the message from this film and apply it in real life.  I personally respect every religion and their belief.  Like wise as the movie emphasis, have faith/believe in your own god but don't believe/support the human who claims himself/herself as GOD.

In short, this movie is a MUST WATCH and IMO it can be coined as "1001th Periyaar" 😉

PS: Being referred Periyaar name, don't categorize me as Dravidian Supporter. 😃

Movie Review : Soorarai Pottru (12th Nov 2020)

From the point of Biopic, Director Sudha Kongara made the movie quite good with perfect casting.  We all knew about Surya's talent and indeed undoubtedly he did his best.  Aparna Balamurali Heroin lived the character than acting.  Apart from the main story heroic activities are little indigestible, am sure Cap Gopinath real character may not have encountered that in reality.

One logic still (I AM) not able to understand how Rs.1 ticket approach gives benefit airline profitability, at least break-even.  The other logic like less fuel, small size, less/no food service etc reduce operating cost is making sense.

One time watchable for sure as the inspiring story was REAL.

PS: Post this movie on 12th Nov 2020 around 10:00am IST, tried to see how easy to book Flight tickets in Air Deccan or Deccan Charters and I am surprised to see none of the booking portal had these airlines as an option.  Webpage listed only Air India, Vistara, IndiGo, Haan Air.  I tried  http://www.deccanair.com/  & http://www.deccanair.com/ which lead to PowerFly.in ended up in erorr msg as : "Server Error in '/' Application."   ... Unga mind voice kekkudhu.. Padam Paathomaa.. Popcorn Thinnoma.. nnu pogaaama why this aaraichi? nnu ! Hmmmm...

Movie Review : Darbar (9th Jan 2020)

Before starting the review one (g)olden say comes into mind:
Can't hurt our eyes ourselves, just because it's a golden needle !
(Thanga oosi ndradhukkaaga, eduthu namma kannai naamey kuthikka mudiyadhu ... that moment)

ARM should have done a better job and he missed the golden opportunity I must say.  Star's previous film set already a huge expectations for Darbar, which was not fulfilled.  Thalaivar is always will rock in his style 200%, when it comes to on-screen.  So what else ARM contributes to the movie, that matters.  Few elements like "Kannula Thimiru" song making and placement, Technique in solving proxy prisoner etc was good and interesting to watch.

Yogi Babu counters brings laughter. I think Nayantara will delete/block ARM contact from her mobile 😄, for the 2nd time experience of making less importance in her role.

Despite all facts, if you wants to stick with 80s/90s movie making formula as.. "boss going to movie just for fun and joy of watching thalaivar swag", then YES you will be satisfied with the film.

In short PETTAH was MASS than DARBAR !!!  (Even for Anirudh)

Movie Review : Kaidhi (26th Oct 2019)

It's not a movie; it s a thrilling journey.  What an amazing making !... hats off to the Dir Lokesh Kanagaraj.  There is not even a single character which was under utilized.  Amazing background scores by Music Dir Sam C S, inspiring work like he did in Vikram Vedha.

No heroine, no songs, subtle comedy within story... a well packed movie.

A must watch film for movie lovers, esp for Action Thriller lovers.  Among the Diwali 2019 releases, this is film is a WINNER.!!!

A lead for the 2nd part without the usual build up, is quite awesome !!!

MUST Watch .. in theater !

Movie Review : Bigil (25th Oct 2019)

Women empowerment is the key message and the director has delivered on that part with emotion which is appreciable. but overall the plot resembles the recent movie KANAA, indeed it was women's cricket and this is Football.  Too many cast involved but ineffectively used even though its a lengthy movie.

No creativity in Vijay Build Up scenes and those scenes are easily taking us to visualize the below..

Nayagan - Dad and Son Dialogues (prior to Bigileeeeui..)
Padayappa - Last fight Abbas Rajini scene (stay in car)
Petta - Nunchaku fight and few other scenes
Kaala - Dad vijay costume

like many things we can explore about the -ves which overkill the +ves of movie.

One time watchable (if you can excuse the length)

Movie Review : Kabali (21st Jul 2016)

Super Star...as usual rocks in his own way.  Mystery starts from title itself as the complete title portion was in malay with NO native language voice-over. Dir Pa Ranjith could have done this better.  Screen play could have been racier. Santhosh Narayan scores well in music on the whole, esp the "Maaya Nadhi" song was a brilliant fit to the story. The same with "Neruppuda" song, perfect fit.  Too many casts with equal weight-age that itself personally I felt as messy.  Among the castings highlight is Attakathi Dinesh as Super star's amicable characterization given space for Dinesh's comedy performance. One good thing is Rajinism on action sequence is not at all there in the movie. Need for villain Tony (Winston Chao) is not justified, this could have been done well as well.

Given the hype movie did not scored well.  So go with no high expectation. Just enjoy the super star ingredients.

Movie Review: Thaarai Thappattai (16th Jan 2016)

Good narration of reality of traditional Indian music bt Dir Bala.  Isaingnani is at his best as usual, we have no eligibility to comment on it.  One best thing of Dir Bala is evident that be it Varalakshmi or Gayathri, NO difference can anyone spot when they perform traditional dance.. Just awesome!  As usual Dir Bala's given us a new inspiring villain RK Suresh.. excellent performance.

Another Epic Film !

Movie Review: Bahubali (11th Jul 2015)

Frame by frame, AWESOME making by Dir S S Rajaouli.  Watched in Tamil version, but never felt like origin is Telugu. Excellent work by entire team, esp Sabu Cyril's artwork, M M Keeravani's music, Cinematography by K K Senthil Kumar.  Anusha's make-up should have been made better.  Overall defenitely a MILESTONE for Indian Cinema.

Must watch in theater, by all audience!  Don't miss it !

Movie Review: Yennai Arnidhaal (5th Feb 2015)

Just another Gowtham Menon's "Cops" movie.  1st half is completely SLOW which could be done better as bit racy.  2nd half (after 10 mins) Dir proved his screen play.  Ajith & Arun Vijay, Vivek and Others raised up the movie by their best & suttle performance, WELL JUSTIFIED their role. Nothing great to comment :( on music by Harris Jayaraj, however not bad too.  Despite the initial feel of watching Gowhtham's "Vettayaadu Vilayadu" at the end  you will watched a good another tamil cop movie.

Surely WATCHABLE, by all audience!

Movie Review: Kaththi (23rd Oct 2014)

Nice & clean message from Dir Murugadoss.  Hats off to his bravery attempt & dialogue.  Hero Vijay justified his acting to the script, without over acting. Heroine Samantha.. Just as PICKLE nothing much to quote.  Sathish comedy was in-line with story and his dialogue delivery "Collector aiya neenga romba nallavaru" imitating Thalabathi Rajini, was just awesome. Cinemotography could have done better esp in songs, not so impressive as vijay's dance was not elevated in right way though he danced well.  Perfect fit of climax song by Yesudas.

NOTE: This film should not be seen just as FILM, rather take away the msg and bring the constitutional change.

Don't miss it.

Movie Review: Arrambam (31st Oct 2013)

Dir Vishnuvardhan gave a decent techno-based action pack against corruption, which should be seen without any expectation (esp on logic).  Predictable screenplay.  However hats-off for the guts to show a mass hero as COMPLETE negative role at the beginning, indeed for not having Ajith's duet.  Ajith stylish look is good, but bulkish, needs a control/refine. Arya did not score much.  Though any efforts should be appreciated, his fatty look over the flashback is too dramatic & unwanted. Nothing much to quote on heroines, as really nothing impressive. Yuvan music & BG is OK.  Stunts were good, except the noisy gun-shots.

Watchable, casually.

Movie Review: Onayum Aatukuttiyum (2nd Oct 2013)

Hats off to Myskin for such a wonderful making.  Story is simple but the way it was told, that's where the difference.  General comment (I heard at least) like could have been better & racy and its usual like dark style etc... viewers pls understand it's Myskin's film.  OMG.. can't imagine how many lines of dialogue they would have written?.. Only BGM drives the movie. Raja (sir) is always Raja.. better say in local language "Raaja... Rajaadhi Rajan indha Raja"!.   Kudos to entire TEAM.

A MUST WATCH MOVIE.

PS: Principally I post my review for movie I watch in theater only.  This is exceptional and don't want to miss this opportunity to post.  Excuse me for this.

Movie Review: Raja Rani (29th Sep 2013)

Mouna Raagam re-told with added flavor & characters.  Jai & Nazria scored well compared to Aryan & Nayan.  Songs were picturized very well & refreshing when watching on big screen, GV Prakash is another vitamin for this movie.  Dir Atlee's attempt is good & commendable especially the unique "one liner" about "life"... fact.. fact.. fact.  Santhanam is as usual and no big difference.

Once watchable.

Movie Review: Thalaivaa (9th Aug 2013):

"Old Wine" is tasteful, but it doesn't suit for movie making which should be realized by directors.  Dir Vijay given this movie with a mix of Bombay, Naayagan, Devar Magan & Punnagai Mannan (Dance Master Theme Song).  Having a disclaimer in the beginning of movie will not justify/support this team.  Music Dir GV Prakash, not sure the company of this film made him as "Copy Cat" too i guess, nothing new. Actor Vijay did not had much scope in acting but he did his humble style, as usual.  Slow Screenplay makes the film lengthy, indeed IT IS lengthy only :(.  Santhanam...except his bravery attempt of pulling the same film Hero, rest all usual.  Twist on heroines plot is only a consoling thing in this movie, in my view.

Time pass, if you really have FREE TIME.

Movie Review: Singam II (5th Jul 2013)

Dir Hari & DSP dissapoints, especially the racy shots through out the movie which gives irritation to your eyes.  He could have balanced that.  DSP did not score well and none of the songs are recollectable. Surya is fine and did his part well. No big scope for Anushka & Hansika. Santhanam comedy are consoling the irritation but not not so impressive.  Rest all charactes except were retailed just to justify the sequel, except villain(s).  Can't bear that a plot like villain "Danny" as the owner of indian ocean, hope its not meant for comedy.  Open ending of movie threatens that "Singam III" may get released.. if so Hari... request you to STOP.

Overall NOT A WIN.

Movie Review: Vatthikuchi (24th Mar 2013)

Dir Kinslin made an excellent & clean film, with perfect casting.  Hero Dhileban & Jegan, Sampath, Saranya, Anjali are perfect fit for the character and did well too.  Gibran's music supported well in driving the movie.   Superb stunt by Rajasekar.  Despite few logical gaffes this movie is really impressive and worth watching.
Very true lines like... "Helping others too an ADDICTION like drinking & smoking..."
Hero character come back by building his self confidence and social thinking like "Should set an RIGHT example of Helping other is GOOD" is really amazing, whilst other characters really discouraging him to do so.

Worth watching & a MUST watch.

Movie Review: Viswaroopam (27th Jan 2013)

I liked the movie, but may not be liked by everyone.  Indeed, Kamal's efforts & performance towards this movie will be appreciated by ALL, no doubt.  Awesome intro song for Kamal with sung by Shankar Mahadevan.  Though dragging, 'al-qaeda' sequences were simply amazing.  Overall music (esp RR) could have been done better by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Excellent work by complete crew (camera, art direction, casting..).  Honestly just after 1st 20mins itself you might feel the dragness.

A must watch for KAMAL.

Movie Review: Thuppaakki (15th Nov 2012)

‘Sleeper Cells' that’s the only thing is interesting in this film.  Dir Murugadoss didn’t meet the expectation due the regular style of action movie and usual logic blender (having terrorist at home in wardrobe, sr. militarty officer not at all aware of the operation performed by Vijay & many) etc.  Harris miserably fails, except the ‘Google’ song (only for audio).  Many places BG score resembles Harris’s previous films.  Oscar winner Santhosh Sivan was found only in 'Goolge' song for few seconds along with Dir and no foot print of his visual magic in this movie.  Kaajal Agarwal is good, only in appearance.  Vijay should try to perform rather than hoping on stylish look alone.  Sathyan was wasted and comedy channels (Aadhitya/Sirippoli) may find challenge in extracting comedy track from this movie.
Time pass.

Movie Review: MAATTRAAN (14th Oct 2012)

KV Anand disappoints, unlike his earlier movies Ayan, KO.. this movie drags a lot, esp the 2nd half. Hope Russia takes it friendly and ignore the controversy project on athletics, even if it’s true. Can appreciate director's braveness for this. Surya's efforts are commendable, as usual he did his best for the character(s). During the conversation with russians, dual track of Russian & Tamil is irritates and could have done better. Nothing much to quote on Kajal Agarwal.  Music by Harris is OK and 'Kaal Mulaitha Kaatre' song is visually good.

Not impressive.  Maatraan... 'Thoatraan'

Movie Review: Thandavam (29th Sep 2012)

Story narration was good but screen play should have been made little faster.  Few places it was indigestive about performance by a blind.   Vikram & Anushka love track is good for a watch, recalls Gajini mildly.  Comedy is also underplayed by Santhanam in-line with story which is good.  Nazar could have been utilized more.

Once watchable.
